FAQs
Is Hammer Bar good for cycling?
Yes. Hammer Bar is a useful energy bar for cycling, especially on longer rides where you want solid-food fuel or a more substantial snack than a gel or drink mix.
Can I use Hammer Bar for running?
Yes, but it is best used before a run, during lower-intensity long runs, hikes or ultra-distance efforts where solid food is comfortable. For faster running or racing, Hammer Gel or HEED may be easier to consume.
Is Hammer Bar an organic energy bar?
Yes. Hammer Bar is made with whole, organic, raw-food ingredients and contains no added refined sugars.
What is the difference between Hammer Bar and Hammer Gel?
Hammer Gel is a concentrated energy gel for quick, compact calories during training and racing. Hammer Bar is a solid-food energy bar, better when you want something more substantial or snack-like.
What is the difference between Hammer Bar and Perpetuem?
Perpetuem is a drinkable long-distance endurance fuel designed for sustained use during longer events. Hammer Bar is a solid-food option that can be used before training, during longer lower-intensity sessions, or as a healthy snack.
I’ve noticed a white/grey film on the chocolate coating
Q: I’ve noticed a white/grey film on the chocolate coating of some Hammer Whey Protein Bars, Chocolate-Peanut Vegan Protein Bars, and occasionally on chocolate-flavoured Hammer Bars. What causes this, and are they safe to eat?
A: The white/grey appearance on the chocolate coating is due to the natural composition of the chocolate, combined with exposure to warmth during shipping or storage (for example, in a warm delivery vehicle).
This effect is known as “blooming”. It happens when the oils in the chocolate separate and then harden.
While some manufacturers use chemical emulsifiers to prevent this, we deliberately avoid adding unnecessary chemicals. The blooming effect is completely harmless, and the bars are 100% safe to consume.
Why does the taste of Hammer Bars sometimes vary?
Hammer Bars are made in small batches using only natural, wholesome, 100% organic ingredients—unlike mass-produced bars made with refined ingredients.
Because the ingredients (such as cashews, almonds, and dates) are affected by growing conditions and harvest times, there can be small natural variations in:
- flavour
- oil content
- sweetness
As a result, the taste, texture, and surface oil may vary slightly from batch to batch.
However, every shipment goes through strict quality control. The taste, texture, and overall quality must meet our high standards before the bars are approved for sale.
Fibre content on the Apple Cinnamon Hammer Bar
Q: It looks like the fibre content in the Apple Cinnamon Hammer Bar has decreased. Has the formula changed?
A: The fibre content has slightly decreased, but this is not due to a change in the formula.
The difference is due to a reclassification by the FDA of one of the ingredients—tapioca syrup.
Previously, it was classified as a prebiotic fibre (a non-digestible ingredient that supports beneficial gut bacteria). The FDA no longer allows it to be classified as either a prebiotic or fibre, and now considers it simply a carbohydrate source.
This change in classification is why the listed fibre content appears slightly lower.
The size of the bars seems smaller than before
Q: The bars seem smaller than they used to be. Am I getting less product?
A: No—you are not getting less. All Hammer Nutrition bars are sold by weight, not by size or shape.
The shape of the bars has changed slightly due to updates in the manufacturing equipment, but the weight remains the same, as guaranteed by agreement with our suppliers.
- Vegan Protein Bars: 56g and 57g
- All Hammer Bars: 50g each
You’re still getting exactly the same amount of product as before.
Do Hammer Bars contain refined sugar?
No. Hammer Bars are raw and made without refined sugar and rely on natural whole-food ingredients for energy.
HOW TO USE
Application:
Use as a pre-exercise meal, post-workout/race recovery food, or healthy snack any time.
Usage Instructions:
Used occasionally during extended workouts and races, Hammer Bars are an ideal solid food choice, augmenting the other Hammer Nutrition fuels perfectly.
Notes:
Depending on the flavour, each Hammer Bar contains between 182-230 calories, 25-27 grams of carbohydrates (none from refined sugar), 4-10 grams of protein, and 7-11 grams of healthy fats. When a solid food choice is desired, Hammer Bar satisfies your hunger in ideal fashion without excess, empty calories.
After workouts or races, if solid food is desired, or when the use of Recoverite is not practical, Hammer Bar is a superb post-workout/race food, providing high-quality carbohydrates and protein in an ideal 3:1 ratio.
