Gravel Race Nutrition & Hydration Plan
Gravel racing creates a different fuelling challenge from ordinary road cycling. Long hours in the saddle, rough terrain, changing intensity, fewer feed stations and limited opportunities to eat or refill bottles mean your nutrition needs to be planned before you reach the start line.
The goal is not to consume as much carbohydrate as possible. It is to take in enough fuel, fluid and electrolytes to maintain a sustainable effort without overwhelming your digestive system.
This guide explains how to build a practical gravel race nutrition plan using duration, conditions and access to aid stations rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all target.

Why Gravel Racing Requires a Different Nutrition Strategy
A road sportive may provide regular feed stations and predictable sections where eating and drinking are easy.

Before the Gravel Race
2–3 Hours Before the Start
Eat a familiar pre-race meal that you know digests comfortably.
