HOW TO MIX UP AND USE PERPETUEM 2.0
Let’s say the bike leg will take you six hours. You can prepare all six hours of fuel in just two bottles.
For example, if you’ve established during training that 2 scoops of Perpetuem 2.0 per hour works well for you, that provides 180 calories per hour (each scoop contains 90 calories).
In that case, put 6 scoops into one bottle to create a 3-hour fuel bottle. Use plain water from another bottle or hydration pack to meet your fluid requirements — approximately 600–830 ml per hour depending on conditions and sweat rate.
Make two 6-scoop bottles and you’ve covered your full six hours of bike nutrition. Dont mix Perpetuem into your hydration pack.
You can mix the bottles the night before and freeze them. This helps keep the drink cool and more palatable as it gradually defrosts during the ride. Hammer also notes that freezing concentrated bottles is perfectly acceptable in hot conditions.
However, if race day is expected to be very hot, or you won’t be able to keep the bottles chilled before the bike leg, try this approach instead:
- Mix and freeze one bottle as above.
- In the second bottle, add only the 6 scoops of Perpetuem 2.0 powder and no water.
Once you finish the first 3-hour bottle, stop briefly and add cold water to the second bottle. It only takes a few seconds, but now you have a fresh, cold bottle of fuel for the second half of the ride. Insulated bottles can also help, if you don’t mind carrying a little extra weight. Dont forget your Electrolytes
One athlete who completed Ironman Australia in hot conditions used this method and reported:
“I did exactly as recommended — I kept the second bottle with dry Perpetuem powder in my Special Needs bag and simply added cold water. It took about 30 seconds and I was back on the road with a cold bottle of Perpetuem for the second half of the bike leg. Brilliant suggestion — worked perfectly.”
